The film revolves around Umesh Manohar (Nivin Pauly), a carefree engineering student who has 42 backlog subjects to clear. He dreams of becoming a filmmaker and wants to assist the famous director Gautham Vasudev Menon. He tries to make a short film with his friends Shaji (Aju Varghese) and Thankaprasad (Neeraj Madhav), but fails miserably. He decides to go to Chennai to pursue his passion, but ends up creating more trouble for himself and his family.
On the train to Chennai, he meets Daisy (Manjima Mohan), his neighbour back home. He tries to woo her, but she rejects him. He lies to his friends that they are having an affair and takes a selfie with her without her consent. He sends the selfie to Shaji, who spreads it around the town. This creates a huge problem for Daisy and her family, who are conservative and orthodox. Umesh returns to his hometown and finds out that everyone thinks that he has eloped with Daisy. He escapes from there with Shaji and goes back to Chennai to find Daisy and clear his name.
With the help of Jack Tracker (Vineeth Sreenivasan), a private detective, Umesh locates Daisy and learns that she is in love with Harinarayan (Harikrishnan), a software engineer. Umesh tries to convince Daisy to come with him and tell the truth to their families, but she refuses. She tells him that she is planning to elope with Harinarayan and asks him to leave her alone. Umesh decides to help her elope, hoping that it will solve his problem as well. However, things take a different turn when he discovers that Harinarayan is not what he seems to be.
